Atletico Madrid sealed their spot in the Audi Cup final after coming from behind to beat Napoli
The game started slowly, with both sides seemingly content to feel each other out.
Atletico had the game’s first half chance after 7 minutes when Godin flicked Carrasco’s deep free kick goalwards but Reina gathered easily.
Insigne then wasted a free kick for Napoli as here fired into the wall after Milik was tripped right on the edge of the box by Koke.
Real chances were absent during the first twenty minutes, with the highlights being a succession of corners from Napoli and a wild strike from range from Hamsik that cleared the bar and then some.
The game’s first real chance came after 25 minutes, former Chelsea man Filipe Luis crossed from the left and Griezmann met the ball with a firm header, but Pepe Reina produced a strong left-handed stop to keep it out, before jumping back into action to block Nico Gaitan’s back-heeled follow-up.
Vlad Chiriches then gave a new meaning to the term ‘ball-playing defender’ as he channelled his inner Denis Kolodin and stepped out from the back and tried his luck from 40 yards.
Napoli then had a great chance to go ahead on the 35 minute mark when they were awarded a penalty. Jose Callejon got across Stefan Savic on the blind side as Ghoulam crossed from the left and the centre-half could only foul the man from Motril as he looked to convert.
Milik stepped up to take the spot kick but was denied by a fine save from Jan Oblak down to his left to keep the score 0-0.
Insigne then had a good effort saved by that man Oblak on the stroke of half-time as he cut in from the left.
The two sides went into the break level, with the first half perhaps best described as 'cagey'.
After another slow start to the second half, Napoli took the lead after 57 minutes through Jose Callejon. As Ghoulam crossed from the left, the winger dropped off his marker at the far post, leaving him all alone to fire a volley back across Oblak and into the top corner.
The Italians went close again shortly after when Lorenzo Insigne brought the best out of Oblak with a 25 yard free kick.
Oblak was called into action once again just minutes later. Napoli countered at pace and somehow found themselves four against three, they worked the ball out to Ghoulam on the left who got the ball out of his feet and tried his luck. His effort was well struck and on target but Oblak got up to turn the ball away.
Atletico wasted a golden chance to draw level after 70 minutes. Carrasco put in a free kick from the left after being brought down by Hysaj. The cross was flicked into the path of centre-back Diego Godin who found himself unmarked six yards out but he headed well over.
However, they were not made to rue the miss for too long. Fernando Torres drew Diego Simeone's side level just three minutes later. Substitute Thomas Partey played in Griezmann down the right and the Frenchman drove for the byline, he got there thanks to a couple of generous deflections and pulled the ball back to the edge of the six-yard box where 'el niño' was on hand to apply an improvised finish from close range.
Atletico then completed the turnaround on 81 minutes as substitute Luciano Vietto converted from close range. As Carrasco sent in a corner from the left, bodies piled towards the near post meaning that when it was flicked on by an Atletico head, Vietto was left all alone at the back post to convert from two yards.
Diego Godin then contrived to get himself sent off in a friendly when he flew into a challenge on Ounas on the left touchline. The defender was already on a yellow card and the referee gave him his marching orders.
Atletico will find out who they face in the final later this evening when Liverpool face Bayern Munich in the other semi-final.
