The rumour came to light just a few days ago and on Tuesday 27th July it became a reality: Toby Alderweireld, until now Tottenham Hotspur's centre-back, is ending his time in London to join Al-Duhail in Qatar.
The English club announced in a statement on their official website that they have reached an agreement for the transfer of the Belgian defender to the Qatari club.
Al-Duhail have so far not commented on the deal, but will presumably wait for a routine medical before announcing the 32-year-old's signing.
Alderweireld, a former Atletico Madrid player, thus brings to an end a great spell in London that began in 2015. Although he did not win any titles, the player was a key player in a Tottenham side that was with him a regular in the top positions and reached the Champions League final in the 2018-19 season.
With that, Toby leaves Tottenham after 236 appearances for the club. In those games, despite playing as a centre-back, he managed to score nine goals for Spurs.
