In the pre-match build-up for the Champions League tie against Man City, Timo Werner recounted his departure from Chelsea and tossed some criticism Thomas Tuchel's way, who decided to not use him as a starter, and was for him moving back to RB Leipzig.
"All that, and the good season I'd had, was forgotten by the manager, it wasn't completely fair. It was also a reason why I needed to return to Leipzig, to get my enjoyment back for it", the German said to 'The Sun'.
He then went on to say that : "At the end of the day, managers like certain players more than others, it's completely normal and you've got to accept it. The main problem is that he put me second fiddle to a striker like Lukaku in the second season after I won the Champions League starting basically every game".
"Maybe that was one of the reasons why I went through my highs and lows too... The coach who signed me, Frank Lampard, was sacked after a few months, which wasn't the best for a player who came to the club after speaking to that manager. From the outside looking in, it was easy to use me as a scape goat", Werner said.
The 26 year old German striker scored 23 goals and got 21 assists in 83 games with the Blues. However, it wasn't enough for Tuchel and Werner is currently at RB Leipzig.
