Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has asked the club's fans to raise £2 million (2,289,306 euros) to save the club from bankruptcy. The club is in financial and sporting trouble, as it has been banned from registering players due to debts owed to the British tax authorities.
According to reports in England, the longer the period without paying the debts, the longer they will be unable to register players, and they could face a sanction of three transfer windows without being able to bring in players.
"If I had money in the bank, why wouldn't I pay. If 20,000 people gave £100 each, then we would be fine and I could end this situation. That amount would cover everything, the tax bill and the wages," Chansiri said in an interview with the 'Sheffield Star' newspaper.
The Owls were already penalised in the summer of 2020 with a 12-point deduction for financial problems, which was later reduced to just six points. The Sheffield club are bottom of the table with six points after 14 games and several days ago sacked Spaniard Xisco Munoz, who had been coaching the club since the summer.
