Wayne Rooney played 13 seasons with Man Utd and scored over 250 goals for the side. Now, ahead of the Manchester derby that will be played out at Wembley for the FA Cup final, the Englishman spoke to 'The Times' about how he thinks his former team can take the title.
The forward thinks it relies on Erik ten Hag taking a gamble on his strategy: "I have a feeling it’s going to go to extra-time and penalties and, for some reason, I feel United will win. I certainly hope they do. How could they do it? Well, I think Erik ten Hag has to gamble a bit".
He thinks the manager needs to "ask City to do something different", and take on the style of Jose Mourinho:"They (Joe Cole, Arjen Robben) didn’t come all the way back and defend when Chelsea were out of possession but instead cheat a bit and wait higher up the pitch in areas from which they could counterattack as soon as Chelsea won the ball back".
He may be right, as Man Utd go into this game as clear underdogs, despite winning a trophy earlier this season at Wembley, defeating Newcastle in the Carabao Cup. If City take the crown, it would complete the second part of their treble, a feat that only rivals United have managed in English football.
