Sheffield United Women's player Maddy Cusack has died at the age of 27. The cause of death, however, has not been disclosed.
Cusack, who joined Sheffield United in 2019 after spells at Birmingham City, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest, became the first player in the club's history to make 100 appearances last season.
In addition, the midfielder also worked as a marketing executive at the Championship club and had renewed her contract with Sheffield United in July.
"This is heartbreaking news for everyone," Stephen Bettis, the club's chief executive, said in a statement.
"Her personality and professionalism made her part of the family and she will be sorely missed. The club is offering all possible support to Maddy's family, friends and colleagues," the executive added.
