This is believed to be a reaction to Pogba's comments against Wolves urging the 'Red Devils' to attack, going against his manager's wishes.
During United's preparations for their Carabao Cup tie against Derby on Tuesday, Mourinho told Pogba - in front of the rest of the squad - that he would not be handed the captain's armband again.
The Frenchman had captained the side for three matches already this season, being handed the armband for the season opener against Leicester despite rumours linking him with a move away from Manchester.
Pogba criticised the Portuguese's tactics against Wolves, saying: "When we are at home we should attack, attack, attack. That's Old Trafford. We are here to attack. I think teams are scared when they see Man United attacking and attacking. That was our mistake today.
"We were winning 1-0 so it was positive for us. Then we tried to defend a bit more against the counter-attack. We stopped playing forward like in the first half and we didn't really put them in trouble.
"We are at Old Trafford and we should just attack and press like we did against Tottenham, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal last season. When we play like this it's easier for us."
Mourinho has now made it clear that he will not be undermined as Manchester United manager.
