Marcos Alonso 'surprised' by Barcelona board's U-turn

Marcos Alonso is a Real Madrid youth player who has spent the last two seasons at Barcelona. He landed, as a free agent, after finishing his contract with Chelsea, but, now, he is in search of a new team with two weeks left on his contract with the 'Cules'. It has been widely reported in the national press that he would sign for Atletico Madrid, but even he is not sure at the moment.

"At the moment, I don't even know where I'm going to play. Now, it's time to switch off and hopefully, soon, we'll have some news. Xavi, Barca and his dismissal? Like everyone else, I was surprised by the changes in course, but these are things that happen and you have to keep your mind on next season and start the season at the top of your game. The former Blues man dropped down the pecking order after his first season, in which he came on 37 times, 20 of them as a starter. In the most recent season, he started 5 out of 8 times, which shows that he has lost his place as a key player in Xavi Hernandez's plans.

Three weeks ago, it was taken for granted in the national press that Marcos Alonso was going to sign for Atletico Madrid as a free agent, but, according to his statements, the negotiations seem to have cooled down. In any case, the 'Colchoneros' will not count on Mario Hermoso next season that is already being planned, so it would make sense for contacts to be reactivated soon so that the former Chelsea man could be his replacement.
