Manchester City roared back from two goals down to beat J-League champions Yokohama F-Marinos 5-3 on Sunday in their first match of a pre-season tour of Japan.
Mateo Kovacic, who left Chelsea to join Pep Guardiola's men, made his Manchester City debut in the friendly in Tokyo. The Croatian also started for the first time.
The Spanish manager spoke to the press after his team's victory and was asked about the Croatian. Guardiola praised his new signing and said he is "an exceptional player".
"Really good. He is an exceptional player, we know it. It’s just the first game. He has to know us and what we want. But really, really good," he told reporters.
The English side will next play Bayern Munich on Wednesday in Tokyo. They then travel to Seoul to take on Atletico Madrid.
