The VAR continues to cause controversy in England. The latest came in the Chelsea v Man Utd match where Harry Maguire could have been sent off for violent conduct on Michy Batshuayi. Neither the ref nor the VAR gave it though.
Around 20 minutes into the match, both players went for the ball and then ended up on the floor. While they were falling, the United man extended his right foot to catch the Chelsea man in the groin region.
The incident occurred near the Chelsea bench, who jumped up immediately to protest what had happened. The VAR checked to see whether it was a red card, but he thought it was not a red card offence.
The United defender got away with a red card for a similar offence to the one Son was sent off for versus Chelsea. On that occasion, he caught Antonio Rudiger with a high boot.
Finally, Maguire ended up being key for United after making it 0-2 after a heading home a Bruno Fernandes. From the possible red card, United remained with 11 and Maguire gave United breathing space.
