During the match between Vitoria Guimaraes and Porto, Moussa Marega was racially abused to the point where he decided he would leave the pitch. "I couldn't stay on the pitch after the monkey screams," he said at RMC Sport'.
Semedo, a Barcelona player, showed his support for Marega's actions and spoke about his own experience with racism while still a Benfica player to newspaper 'Público'.
"I would have acted differently now because I wasn't that mature at the time. If it had happened to me today, I would have done exactly the same thing as Marega did: leave the pitch," he said.
The full-back felt that Marega had the courage to leave the field and that racism is a problem that is punished very lightly, if at all.
"That day I felt supported by my team-mates and Benfica, but not so much by public opinion. I remember something they wrote in which they criticised my gestures because they said that the client is always right... The first person who should react in this kind of performance is the referee. What he should do is suspend the match."
