Free since the termination of his contract with Real Madrid at the end of June 2023, Eden Hazard announced on his Instagram account on Tuesday that he was officially calling time on his professional career at the age of 32.
A week after his announcement, which came as a surprise in the football world, the Belgian gave a short interview to the newspaper 'L'Avenir'.
The former Real Madrid player explained his decision to end his career so early: "I was coming out of a complicated period at Madrid. I'd always said I'd stop as soon as I wasn't enjoying myself on the pitch any more. I didn't want to go and play somewhere just for the money. That was the best solution. I wasn't enjoying training any more... and I wasn't playing any more. It was a simple decision.
"I'm at peace with myself. I'd already been thinking about it for a while, so it helped. I have so many things to do outside football that I was able to make a calm choice," added Eden Hazard.
