Speaking to journalists in London, where he is taking part in an event for leagues and the International Federation of Professional Footballers' Associations (FIFPRO), Javier Tebas said that it "seems normal" that Pique will be investigated, given his role in some of the contracts under investigation, such as the one that took the Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
"If the former president (of RFEF Luis) Rubiales was already under investigation, it seems normal that Pique would be investigated. We will see how events develop, but it seemed normal and logical," he said.
Tebas, who recalled that he was a private prosecutor and that he filed several complaints shortly after Rubiales arrived at the RFEF, added that he was not surprised by the investigation of the former Barcelona captain "not because he is Gerard Pique, but because everything that happened in the Federation was not normal and I don't think it's over," he added.
For the La Liga president, regardless of whether the former centre-back had been captain of Barcelona or a well-known player, "it is clear that everything that could be contracted without going through the appropriate bodies", such as the RFEF's Economic Commission, was brought to the Assembly "under the table".
At the same time, he considered that, in the eight months of Pedro Rocha's management of the RFEF, there has been "a change in philosophy, form and substance".
In his opinion, "it is important that the methods change" with rules of governance and transparency, but also that there is a change in the substance that allows "sitting down to talk" about the differences between La Liga and the RFEF.
