It is not exaggerated to say that Antonio Conte and Thomas Tuchel were about to come to blows after Chelsea's draw with Tottenham on matchday two of the Premier League season. The fact Bentancur's foul on Havertz, which led to the 1-1 goal, was not given and Conte's celebrations led to the fight.
Midway through the second half, the Blues were winning 1-0 against Spurs, who managed to draw level with a low shot from Hojbjerg from the edge of the box. The problem was that the move started with Bentancur fouling Havertz, but the referee did not give it. As Chelsea had regained possession between the alleged foul and the goal, VAR could not review it.
When the visitors were celebrating the goal, Tuchel was very close to the fourth official complaining, and Conte came onto the scene to celebrate in his face. That obviously did not go down well with the Chelsea manager. To make things worse for the hosts, Harry Kane scored deep into stoppage time to make it 2-2 after Reece James had restored Chelsea's advantage.
At full-time, there was more tension between Tuchel and Conte. They went over to shake each others hand, but Tuchel was not at all happy that Conte did not look him in the eyes wghen shaking his hand. He grabbed the Italian's arm and tried to get him to look at him. The players and rest of the coaching staff had to pull them again and referee Anthony Taylor sent off both Conte and Tuchel.
