Croatia international midfielder Mateo Kovacic said on Wednesday that "everything indicates" that, "after five years", he will change clubs, although it will be seen "what happens" after a "really bad" season with Chelsea, and considered that Manchester City, his possible destination, are a "top team", but remarked that he is now "focused" on his national team and the Nations League.
"I have one year left on my contract with Chelsea. It has been a really bad season. Everything indicates that after five years I will change teams, but we'll see what happens. At the moment I'm only focused on Croatia and the Nations League," he said with the Croatian national team, according to his federation's website.
The midfielder is on Manchester City's radar for next season after a five-year spell at Chelsea, where he has played since 2018/19, making 221 official appearances in all competitions, scoring six goals and providing 15 assists. He has played 37 games this season, 27 starts, registering two goals and two assists.
"Manchester City are a top team and deserve to be in the Champions League final. That's what I have to say. The summer is long, we will see what happens. Chelsea for me is fantastic. I love the city and the fans, they love me, I have wonderful memories of the club. We'll see what happens," explained Kovacic, who will be cheering on compatriot Marcelo Brozovic and Inter in the final of Europe's top competition.
