Karim Benzema left the French national team after missing the 2022 World Cup in Qatar due to injury. But he could return next summer for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The striker is one of a list of 100 players over the age of 23 who could be called up for the event if Thierry Henry so wishes.
The Al-Ittihad player admitted to 'L'Equipe' that he is willing to take part in the Olympic championship: "Why not? Of course, it would be great," he said.
Henry has already expressed his desire to be able to count on Mbappe, Griezmann and Giroud as over-23 players at the Paris Games. But both the Bondy-born Mbappe, because of his possible move to Real Madrid, and Griezmann, as Atletico also have no intention of releasing him for the date, seem complicated options. Benzema could be a viable option for the coach.
The advantage of calling up Karim Benzema is that the striker would not be coming off the back of playing in the European Championship in Germany, a circumstance that the other names in the running for the squad would have to face. His club should not put too many obstacles in the way of allowing him to play for France.
