Barcelona faced Almeria in a La Liga match this Saturday against Almeria. It was Gerard Pique's final home game at the Camp Nou Stadium after announcing his retirement.
In the first half, Lewandowski missed a clear penalty which was the perfect chance to open the scoring in the sixth minute. Barcelona were dominating possession and they tried to score so hard but they could not do it due to the good performance of Fernando Martinez, the Almeria goalkeeper. He saved the ball several times leaving Barcelona goalless in the opening minutes. Almeria had just one chance through Ramazani on the counter but Ter Stegen saved it. It was goalless after the first 45 but everything changed in the second half.
At the start of the second half, Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring in the 48th minute. He moved the ball on the right flank and he went forward in order to score. Dembele finally did it from close range. Fifteen minutes later, Frenkie De Jong scored the second goal. Jordi Alba passed the ball to Ansu Fati and he tried to score and the Almeria goalkeeper cleared it but De Jong scored the rebound from inside the box. Both teams made a lot of substitutions in the second period and Almeria were defending very well despite Barca's attacks.
Undoubtedly, the meeting was characterised by Pique's farewell when he was replaced by Christensen. It was an amazing moment for Barca's history. He said goodbye to his teammates and went to the bench to continue saying goodbye to the stadium that has seen him grow as an international footballer. It was a very emotional moment for all the fans. Pique played 615 matches and he scored 53 goals for Xavi's side. He will be present for the next match against Osasuna but his availability on the pitch is uncertain.
Barcelona go into first place in La Liga on 34 points while Almeria are 15th on 13 points.
