Marcos Alonso and Cesar Azpilicueta have a game against the Czech Republic this Sunday at La Rosaleda. Once they have completed their international duties for Spain in the Nations League, the two will return to England.
'Sport' claims that next week will be key in the two men deciding their futures. The duo are on Barcelona's shortlist, but they have will have a meeting with their current club, Chelsea, to discuss the team's plans for the 22/23 season.
Both Spaniards would be willing to try their luck at Barcelona. 'Sport' mentions that of the two, Marcos Alonso would be the easier to sign in principle. The left back's contract expires in June 2023 and he has publicly stated that he wants to play in La Liga. It would be slightly more complicated for Azpilicueta.
Due to the change of owners, Azplilicueta will have to discuss his future with Todd Boehly. Abramovich gave him his word that he could leave at the end of the season, but the ownership of the club has changed hands and the player needs to reach another agreement with the new owner.
Todd Boehly seems determined to keep Azpilicueta at Stamford Bridge. We will have to see what happens in the coming days.
