After starting with an exciting 2-0 lead against Bayern Munich, Barcelona got a real slap in the face on their visit to Benfica in the second matchday of the Youth League group stage.
The Azulgrana side, dominated by their opponents, lost by a scandalous 4-0 scoreline that was cemented by a nightmarish start to the second half in which Barcelona were demolished by their opponents.
The first half was a far more even affair than the game had been, with the Barcelona side going into the break with a 0-0 draw that didn't last after the restart.
Benfica scored three goals from the time the referee announced the start of the second half until the 57th minute. Resende, in the first attack, scored 1-0 in the 46th minute and, with no time to come to terms with the blow, Barca saw Ndour make it 2-0 in the 49th minute.
The 3-0 came courtesy of Resende himself in the 57th minute, just four minutes after Barcelona had been reduced to ten men by the sending off of goalkeeper Ander. Rafus came on to defend the goal, but could not prevent the Portuguese lead from growing.
Neto, in the 68th minute, hit a cross-shot from the edge of the box that, after touching a defender, ended up in the back of the net to seal a 4-0 win that leaves the Catalan side in third place in their group behind Dynamo Kiev and Benfica.
