Manchester United recently announced the official numbers for the 2023/24 season, including the new signings: Reguilon (15), Hojlund (11), Bayindir (1) and Jonny Evans (35).
The only number remaining to be confirmed was their latest signing, Moroccan international Sofyan Amrabat. The Reds Devils have released a statement on their official website confirming that Sofyan Amrabat will wear number 4 this season.
The number 4 was previously worn by Phil Jones, who expired his contract with the club last summer. The centre-back, a free agent until now, wore the 4 for 12 seasons since joining from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2011.
Before Jones, players such as Veron, Heinze and Owen Hargreaves also wore the number 4 for Manchester United. The last one of those spent four seasons in which he won the Premier League and the Champions League.
The 27-year-old midfielder wore the number 34 for his previous club Fiorentina, where the Morocco international made a total of 107 Serie A official appearances.
The former Utrecht player could make his debut in mid-September, when Manchester United host Brighton at Old Trafford in Premier League matchday five.
