Toni Polster is Sevilla through-and-through and in the 1989/90 season he scored 33 La Liga goals for the Andalusian side. Now, he has been speaking to newspaper 'AS' about the La Liga clash between Real Madrid and his former team, a vital encounter in the fight for the league title.
"It's very difficult to overtake three teams with such little remaining of the season. That home defeat against Athletic was pivotal in limiting Sevilla's chances for the title. But we have to fight, football always gives surprises. We have to start by beating Madrid", the ex-striker commented.
In addition, he had time to talk about his compatriot David Alaba, the reference point for Austrian football in the modern game. The Bayern player has been heavily linked with a moved to Real Madrid. "Playing for Madrid is his dream, but it won't be easy. He is loved at Bayern and he has won many titles. Achieving the same thing with Madrid is very difficult. But it's a risk that he has taken, he has thought it through well and I wish him all the best".
Alaba could be Ramos' big replacement, although the club captain could yet renew his contract and stay another year in the Spanish capital, in which case the Austrian would have to be a substitute - a matter which Polster also wanted to talk about.
"It's a lot of pressure for a new signing. He wanted to start a new chapter in his career and Madrid are going to have an exceptional player in their ranks that can play in a number of positions. In the middle of the park, in the centre of defence, out on the left - he can do everything. It's a good decision, I think he has made the right choice in Madrid", he declared.
