Since the infamous last-ditch fax machine disaster that put paid to David De Gea's move to the Bernabeu, Zidane has put his complete faith in Costa Rica international Keylor Navas. As far as the Frenchman is concerned, Navas is his goalkeeper. It's a stance that has worked quite well for 'Los Blancos', with the club winning both La Liga and the Champions League with the 31-year-old between the sticks. With that in mind, Zidane has decided against strengthening in that position this month, with any potential move for Kepa delayed until the summer.
Zidane is reluctant to overhaul his squad in January, despite Real's disappointing start to the campaign, with the former Juventus star maintaining faith in his big names. The Real boss does not want to add to his squad, not even a goalkeeper, as had been rumoured.
What wasn't known was that Zidane has personally spoken to both Navas and back-up stopper Kiko Casilla to inform them that the club will not sign another goalkeeper this month, according to Spanish publication 'Marca'.
Zidane's point of view is clear, Navas and Casilla are his goalkeepers until the end of campaign, then and only then will he discuss a potential move for Kepa.
That leaves the Spanish international in a tight spot, with Kepa having not trained with Athletic for over a week as the club try to force him into a decision on a new deal.
