Witsel, Semedo, and Emerson - Atleti targets for years

One of the best additions to the Atletico Madrid squad this transfer window will be Axel Witsel. He is about to put an end to his spell at Borussia Dortmund, and sign for the Spanish club. It will be a tick off of Simeone's list of desired transfers, as the Argentine has enquired on numerous occasions about incorporating the Belgian into his team.

Witsel is not the only name that has been on Atelti's agenda for the past few years. Both Nelson Semedo, from Wolves, and Emerson Royal, from Tottenham, are the two most wanted right-backs for the club from the Spanish capital, and they have been for some time.

In the Portuguese's case, Atletico were interested in him in 2019. At the time, they were looking for Juanfran's replacement. At that moment in time, Atletico were wanitng to take adavantage of Griezmann's departure to the Catalan capital.

More recently, 'Los Rojiblancos' have expressed interest in Emerson. They wanted to bring him to the club on a loan deal during the January window last season. However, as is the case in the current window, Tottenham did not want to agree to any deal regarding their player.
