Dutch midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum arrived in Italy on Thursday to complete his loan move from PSG to Roma, the club coached by Portugal's Jose Mourinho.
Roma continue to strengthen their squad in a summer transfer window that has surprised everyone. Following the signings of Argentinian Paulo Dybala and Serbian Nemanja Matic to the Italian side, Wijnaldum has arrived, welcomed at Ciampino airport (Rome) by around a hundred fans.
The Dutch international, European champion with Liverpool in 2019, arrives in the 'Giallorossi' ranks after a season without much importance at PSG to reinforce the Roma midfield, affected by the end of the loan of the Portuguese Sergio Oliveira, a regular in Mourinho's schemes.
The loan deal, according to local media reports, includes a buyout clause of around eight million euros for next season. It also includes an agreement to pay the player's salary between the two clubs, which the player has agreed to lower in order to facilitate the negotiation, for which Roma will pay around five million euros.
Wijnaldum is expected to undergo his medical on Friday and will be presented at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome on Sunday, along with the rest of the squad, during the final pre-season friendly before the start of the league campaign against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Champions of the Conference League, Roma have had one of the most complete transfer markets in Italy and are one of the teams to keep an eye on in order to, at the very least, reach the Champions League places without any problems.
It could not be the last addition for Roma, who are working to secure the services of Italian striker Andrea Bellotti from Torino.
