Brazil president Jair Bolsonaro is not afraid of saying what he thinks. He was asked about the difference in salaries between Neymar and Maria, stars of men's and women's football in Brazil respectively.
But Bolsonaro's response has not gone down well with many. "Women's football is still not a reality in Brazil. What Neymar earns in a year is what all football clubs in Brazil get in a season. How is Marta going to get paid the same salary? It's ridiculous," the president said.
He added: "This is called private initiative, it is what determines the salary and shows where the market must head towards. There are still ridiculous issues, comparing men and women playing football. You don't need to compare them."
While Marta gets 400,000 dollars a year for Orlando Pride in the NWSL, her compatriot earns 14.5 million euros a year.
Marta was obviously unhappy with these comments and she had a dig at Bolsonaro on her Instagram account: "Some will be remembered as the best in history, others..."
