West Ham enquire about Barcelona centre-back

The 22-year-old was sent on loan to Nice this season and has subsequently impressed a host of Premier League suitors, including Leicester City.

However, it is West Ham who appear to be the frontrunner's for Santos' signature after contacting Barcelona.

New manager Manuel Pellegrini is keen to stamp his mark on the 'Hammers' squad and feels the young defender would be a a great addition.

West Ham's defence needs significant improvement after shipping 68 goals in the league, the joint-most with Stoke City in England's top division. 

Santos made 27 appearances for Nice during his loan stint, helping them secure an eighth-placed finish in Ligue 1. 

The move could hinge on whether Santos feels he can break into Barca's first team though, which could take a blow if 'Los Cules' bring in Sevilla's Clement Lenglet.
