Werner lashed home a warning shot with 8 minutes gone

It was a wonderful piece of interplay from the Germans. Josh Kimmich picked out the run of Marco Reus from deep and he unselfishly dropped the ball off first time for Werner to ruthlessly smash home.

The move showed good omens for Germany ahead of the World Cup in Russia, which they go into as defending champions.

Werner now has eight goals in his 14 appearances for 'Die Mannschaft', demonstrating his credentials to be starting striker at the tournament.

That campaign is reinforced by the Golden Boot that he won at the Confederations Cup last summer, another tournament in which Germany emerged as champions.
