Ecuador international Romario Ibarra said he is "in the best year" of his career after beating the hosts in the opening match.
"The team were focused on doing this. We wanted to make history. We had never beaten the host in the opener and we were able to get the three points."
The Pachuca player spoke about their perfomances in the second half: "We did the same job as in the first half. We came out with the same intensity and we had several chances to score."
Ibarra congratulated his teammate Enner Valencia: "We are very happy with him. No one has ever scored a brace at the start of the tournament.
"We come here with the mentality to do something big. We are still humble but we are already thinking about the next match against the Netherlands. It will be more difficult than this one, we hope to be focused to get a good result," he said.
"This is a very good experience for everyone. We will continue to enjoy it," Ibarra concluded.
