The 'Terriers' won the fourth round match against Birmingham 4-1 and can be full of confidence after beating Bournemouth in the league by the same scoreline.
"It is the cup so we can play this game with freedom against one of the biggest names in world football at home," said Wagner. "If there was one game where we can play totally with freedom, then it is this one."
Huddersfield have already beaten Manchester United this season, winning 2-1 in the Premier League match in October, but Wagner was not getting ahead of himself.
"Usually if United plays Huddersfield three times, they will not make a mistake twice, but we all know that in football, anything is possible," he said.
However, with Aaron Mooy injured and their league position far from certain, Huddersfield may not be looking to target the cup at all.
"The priority since day one is the Premier League," Wagner added. "This doesn't mean automatically that we don't like to be successful in the other competitions as well."
