Newcastle's slim hopes of qualifying for European competition next season suffered a blow after they suffered an unexpected 2-0 defeat at Selhurst Park to Crystal Palace in the 29th Premier League matchday.

Jean-Philippe Mateta broke the deadlock for the Eagles after an impressive one-two with Jordan Ayew shortly after the start of the second half and the French striker made sure of victory for the home side before stoppage time with his brace.
