Brighton Women suffered a penalty shoot-out defeat to West Ham in their opening Continental Cup group game. Megan Connolly and Rianna Jarrett scored for the Seagulls in the 2-2 draw, before the Hammers triumphed 4-2 on spot-kicks.

Rachel Daly opened the scoring for the Hamers on 31 minutes before Megan Connolly equalised before half-time and Rianna Jarrett turned the game on its head just past the hour mark.

Gill Flaherty scored with eight minutes to play though to send the group game to penalties. No draws are allowed in the group stage of the competition this season
