Valencia thought they had taken the lead through Rodrigo, but the referee chalked it off after a VAR review. Maxi Gomez was offside and interfering with play.

There was a controversial incident in the Real Madrid v Valencia game. After an open start, Valencia thought they had hit the front in the 21st minute with the score at 0-0.

Soler raised his head, Maxi Gomez tried to flick on with his heel, but made no contact with the ball and Rodrigo beat Courtois with his left foot.

It looked clean, but the referee was called to the pitchside monitor by the VAR.

Real Madrid complained about Maxi Gomez being offside and interfering with play.

Finally, referee Sanchez Martinez, decided to disallow the goal and Gaya was booked for his protests.
