Germany were playing with fire in their tie with Sweden, as the Scandinavians hit them on the counter attack time and time again, and they flew extremely close to the sun in the 23rd minute.
Swedish striker Marcus Berg broke away upfield on the counter, and was charging towards a one-on-one with Manuel Neuer. The Swedish fans were on their feet in anticipation of a goal, but Berg was stopped at the last second by Jerome Boateng, who knocked him off his stride inside the box.

Neuer blocked his shot, but replays showed that there was a reasonable shout for a penalty, with Berg hitting the deck, and the Swedes were incensed by the referee's refusal to award them anything.

Furthermore, there was no intervention from VAR this time. There have been 14 penalties at the tournament so far, however nothing was done in this case, leaving many people wondering where VAR was.
