VAR was one of the most controversial elements of the World Cup when it first got under way this summer, but its effectiveness seem to grow as the tournament progressed.
While some have been won over by the use of the technology as a means to make the game fairer, Mesa is not convinced.
Despite his team actually benefitting from its use, as they were given a goal against Barcelona in the Spanish Supercopa which had originally bene ruled out for offside, Mesa admitted that he does not like VAR.
"On one hand VAR is good, but on the other hand, you lose a bit of the essence of footbal. You can no longer trick or cheat (the officials)." the midfielder said after the game.
Not everyone will agree with the specifically underhand reasons that Mesa gave, but many would agree that it disrupts the flow of the game.
VAR will be used in LaLiga, when the division kicks off for the new season next weekend.
