Palace's victory over Brighton earned them three crucial points, in their bid to retain Premier League status. However, they could've been even less under threat, had they held firm in the closing stages of recent matches.
Roy Hodgson's side conceded late goals in previous defeats against Liverpool, Tottenham and Manchester United, and drew with Bournemouth after Joshua King scored in the 89th minute against the 'Glaziers'.
Tomkins spoke to the official club website and said: ''It's happened to us a few times when we have panicked towards the end but we managed to keep a clean sheet in the second half [against Brighton].''
He added: ''We knew if we did that we would win the game but it was nerve wracking at times, and I can imagine the fans being a bit nervous watching us, but it's three points which move us up the table and closer to safety.''
The defender was however, positive regarding Palace's future, adding: ''If we play the same way we did, I'm sure we'll win more games than we lose. I'm just buzzing that we managed to get the win.''
