30-year-old Tiote passed away after collapsing during training with Chinese second division side Beijing Enterprises.
His body was flown back to his homeland earlier this week after a memorial service was held for him in Beijing.
The former Newcastle man's funeral was attended by former team-mates and dignitaries alike, whilst hundreds of people waited at Abidjan International Airport to welcome their hero home.
Former international team-mate Salomon Kalou was amongst the mourners. In an interview with 'BBC Sport' he said that Tiote was "someone he respected as a human being but also as a footballer" and that "we're all here to show him love and to show him he's always going to be in our hearts".
Manchester City striker Wilfried Bony was also present and he told 'BBC Sport' how Tiote had been his mentor when he was first called up to the national side.
The Ivorian Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibaly was in attendance, as were Ivorian Sport Minister Albert Amichia and the President of the Ivorian football federation Augustin Sidy Diallo.
