"There will be no problem whether I play or not"

Pau Lopez, on loan for a year at Girona from Olympique Marseille with an option to buy, stated on Tuesday that neither the coach, Michel Sanchez, nor the sporting director, Quique Carcel, nor “anyone” has promised him to play, something that must be earned on a day-to-day basis.

“In the end, the club don't pay me to play, but to train. I come to be one more and there will be no problem if I play or not. I want to play, like everyone else, but I come to a club where there is a goalkeeper (Paulo Gazzaniga) who is doing well and there is a role to respect,” added Lopez in his presentation.

He was “happy”, thanked the “great effort at club level” that Girona has made to get his loan and insisted that he comes to “enjoy” “a unique experience” and to contribute the knowledge acquired during his career, with more than 350 games between Espanyol, Betis, Roma and Olympique de Marseille.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper admitted that the last two months have been “complicated” because Olympique Marseille did not count on him and that, from that point, he looked at the options he had and opted for Girona because of the “exciting” season ahead with the historic debut in the Champions League.
