"This will be very hard to get over. Football does this to you, you do everything you can to win but things here and there don't go your way. We played the hosts and it was a difficult match but we gave it everything we could" Ramos declared.
"We had a lot of chances and we gave it our all. Any one back home could see that we played our hearts out. We are prouder than ever to be Spanish and as captain I think we need to leave with our heads held high" he added.
Ramos confirmed that it was a painful result to take. "Whenever you are eliminated from a World Cup it's painful. They had to wait until penalties which was the only point where they could threaten our goal. As captain I am really proud of all the work the team has done" he said.
When asked "Is this the end of an era?" the defender replied "The team will continue to dream".

"We couldn't have done more" Ramos highlighted, "Penalties were the only way they could hurt us. By its nature, penalty shootouts are a lottery and it was us who had to lose"
