The ever-expanding MLS is setting its sights on Europe once again and more specifically on the host of experienced stars who could be tempted to make the move to the US over the course of the summer.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the last major name to swap Europe for the bright lights of the land of the free and the home of the brave, but he could soon be joined by four more giants of the game.
The first possibility is Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure. City recently confirmed that the veteran will be leaving the club upon the expiry of his contract this summer and David Villa's New York City are the early favourites to seal a deal. Former New York city man Frank Lampard recently told the 'BBC' that Toure "would fit in very weel in the MLS."
Wayne Rooney is another player being heavily linked with a move, perhaps somewhat surprisingly given that he only returned to hometown club Everton last summer. DC United are the frontrunners for the England legend, with some sources having claimed the move as being a done deal, though Sam Allardyce's depature could affect the 32-year-old's plans.
Atletico Madrid icon Fernando Torres is also on the lookout for a new club, with just one game remaining for him with his boyhood side. Having signed off with his first trophy in a 'rojiblanco' shirt following Atletico's Europa League triumph on Wednesday night, there is thought to be plenty of offers on the table for the former Liverpool and Chelsea man, with Montreal Impact and Houston Dynamo both though to hold a serious interest.
Finally, Stephan Lichtsteiner is also up for grabs after seeing talks with Borussia Dortmund break down. At the age of 34, there is little he is yet to achieve in Europe and having ruled out a move to China, the MLS could be "a new and interesting experience" for the Swiss international.
