Barcelona have a long history of playing in Europe and have played in every single UEFA competition. Despite not beating every team they have faced, they have managed to get at least a draw against some of them. They lost to Slovan Bratislava in the 1969 Cup Winners' Cup, but against teams that they have played more than once, one team are victorious in every game. That team currently play in the Scottish Premiership (Top tier of Scottish football): Dundee United.
Barca played the Scottish side for the first time in 1966 in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Several Scottish sides were involved that year: Dunfermline Athletic reached the last 16, Kilmarnock lost to Leeds United in the semi-finals, while Celtic won the European Cup. However, it was in the Camp Nou where the headlines were made, as the Terrors recorded a famous win against Barcelona. Finn Seemann and Billy Hainey got the goals for United.
United managed to repeat the feat in the 2nd leg against the Spanish giants at Tannadice. Goals from Ian Mitchell and Billy Hainey saw United go through 4-1 on aggregate. United were knocked out 3-1 on aggregate in the next round by Juventus, and had to settle for a 9th place finish in the Scottish league. Barcelona came 2nd behind Real Madrid in La Liga.
Barca faced some familiar foes more than 20 years later in the UEFA Cup (current Europa League). They met in the quarter-finals that year. Ex-Scotland star Kevin Gallacher's 2nd-minute goal clinched the victory for the Scots.
United recorded their most recent win in the 2nd leg of the match. Iain Ferguson and John Clark scored for the Terrors, while Calderé scored for Barcelona. The Barca side included Mark Hughes and Gary Lineker, while the United lineup included current Kilmarnock goalkeeping coach Billy Thomson and Motherwell's 1991 Scottish cup winner Iain Ferguson. Barcelona came 2nd in the league that year while United came 3rd behind Rangers and Celtic.
