In the summer of 2011, Real signed Sahin from Dortmund for €10m on six-year contract, but he never managed to make an impact at the Bernabeu.
During his time in Spain, Sahin played four La Liga, two Champions League and two Cup games, before being sent out on loan to Liverpool and eventually returning to Dortmund.
The German club re-signed him for a mere €7m in 2014 and he has since gone on to be an influential figure in the middle of the park.
Now, Sahin is in line to face Zinedine Zidane's side in the group stage of the Champions League.
The Turkish midfielder had taken part in all games for Peter Bosz's side up until this weekend, when he was rested along with a number of players in preparation for the heavyweight clash at Signal Iduna Park.
