Despite the success enjoyed in his first few months in Russia, in which he received a player of the month award, Malcolm hasn't shown enough consistency and hasn't been able to become the star that the Russian side had hoped.
The truth is that player hasn't come close to the level he was at whilst playing for Bordeaux, form which saw him sign for Barcelona in a controversial move.
After one season with Barca, in which he scored four goals and provided two assists in 24 matches, he was sold to Zenit where he caught the attention of many.
It hasn't been the same story this season, however, despite enjoying more minutes due to not being injured as much.
Chatting to 'Globoesporte', he spoke of his dream to be called up to the Brazil squad, although he knows it is difficult: "I am Brazilian, who wouldn't want to play for their country?"
Malcome has a surprising 'plan B' to play for Russia, as countrymen Guilherme and Mario Fernandes have done in the past.
"If this isn't possible, I have to handle a 'plan B'. Playing for Brazil is my dream. Now I have to play again, score goals, stand out and I will think about all the rest of it afterwards".
