Everything that could've gone badly for Willian, has done. He left Chelsea to win the Champions League, and just one year later the 'Blues' got their hands on the famous trophy. What's more, Arsenal have finished outside of the European places, with the Brazilian now rumoured to be on his way out of the club this summer.
Willian tried to rub proverbial salt into the wounds when he explained why he chose to join Arsenal. "When I spoke with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years", he stated.
"It was because he wanted to bring the side Champions League qualification and then win it before I left. And that's what I wanted to hear. I was at Chelsea for seven years and I won everything, apart from the Champions League", he continued
"With a bit of luck, this move will give me the trophy that I still don't have, and hopefully another Premier League", Willian said, nearly a year ago. He could never have imagined that these words would come back to haunt him so badly.
Not only did Arsenal fail to qualifiy for the Champions League, but they finished outside of the Europa League places as well, doing so for the first time in 25 years. Chelsea, meanwhile, without Willian, were crowned winners of the Champions League.
What's more, Willian has been harshly criticised by Arsenal fans since his arrival, as his performances have been well below what had been expected. And on top of that, his salary is one of the largest in the squad, meaning the Brazilian could well by offloaded in the summer to make the club's accounts a little bit lighter.
