Sevilla's Moroccan Yassine Bono is one of the seven players who are among the seven players competing for 'The Best' in the goalkeeping category, an award promoted by FIFA to highlight the best players of each season. On this occasion, the award also includes what was done at the recently concluded World Cup in Qatar 2022.
Sevilla reported on Monday that the international body announced the list of potential winners of this trophy, which will be awarded on 27th February at the gala, and that in the category of goalkeepers there are seven candidates chosen and those who can succeed the current winner, Chelsea's Senegalese Edouard Mendy.
In addition to Bono, the list of candidates includes Aston Villa's Emiliano Martinez, who went to the World Cup as goalkeeper for Argentina and won the tournament. He is joined by Alisson Becker (Liverpool/Brazil), Thibout Courtois (Real Madrid/Belgium), Dominik Livakovic (Dinamo Zagreb/Croatia), Mike Maignan (AC Milan/France) and Manuel Neuer (Bayern Munich/Germany).
Bono, who played a key role in Morocco's historic qualification for the semi-finals of the World Cup and was named ninth best goalkeeper in the world at the Ballon d'Or gala last October, was, according to FIFA, "a key factor in Sevilla having the best defensive record in LaLiga in the 2021-22 season and his efforts were recognised when he received the Zamora Trophy", awarded to the tournament's least-scored goalkeeper.
