After years of Messi-Ronaldo domination - with the exception of the Ballon D'Or won by Modric - this year it's possible that the winner of the coveted trophy could well suprise everyone. As campaigns are already starting to be made for its candidates, Terry would like it if N'Golo Kante won.
Kante has spent ages being one of the favourites among his own fans, but his work on the pitch perhaps isn't always rewarded. He's a born worker with a seemingly limitless engine, but the fruit of his labour aren't goals or dazzling skills.
He's one of those players whose work often goes unnoticed, behind the dazzling attacking displays of the forwards. But the Ballon D'Or has become a popularity contest and, for how well you do in the pitch, if you don't appear in the poll you won't get many votes.
For that reason ex-players such as John Terry believe it would be brilliant if Kante won it this year. "Kante’s like 11 players on his own. What he does, he goes so under the radar. He is such a top-class player. I’d love to go see him win the Balon d’Or or get the appreciation that I feel he deserves," he explained in an interview for 'Stadium Astro'.
"He’s such a humble guy. He just goes about his business and keeps out of any trouble. He’s been a great asset for the football club and we are very lucky to have him at Chelsea for sure," he added.
