South Korean international Ki has undergone minor knee surgery in his homeland after having pick up an injury on international duty last month. Swansea were already looking to bring in a new midfielder this summer but with Ki set for a spell on the sidelines that need is ever more pressing.
A deal was already being discussed for Las Palmas' Roque Mesa and it appears that Paul Clement's side will be trying to push that deal through sooner rather than later following the news about Ki.
The deal to sign Mesa is expected to set the Swans back in the region of £11.5m.
The 28-year-old caught the attention of several sides last season as he ended the La Liga campaign with a pass completion percentage of 91.4%.
Paul Clement has been looking for a player to strengthen the engine room in South Wales and it appears that Mesa is his man.
