Stones out of action until September, Guardiola confirms

John Stones has missed Manchester City's last three games due to a hip injury but is expected to miss several more. The centre-back is still recovering and his recovery time will depend on his progress.

Meanwhile, manager Pep Guardiola confirmed at the post-match press conference after the 1-0 win over Newcastle that the English defender will not be available until September.

"John will be ready after the international break," he told reporters. As a result, the 29-year-old will also not be able to represent his country in the Euro 2014 qualifier against Ukraine.

Josko Gvardiol, who joined the Sky Blues this summer, is taking his place in Manchester City's starting XI. The 21-year-old played as a starter in the games against Sevilla in the UEFA Super Cup final and against Newcastle in the Premier League.
