According to 'Sportsmail', Stoke are seeking out attacking players as they have struggled in front of goal this season with the likes of Peter Crouch, Biram Mame Diouf and Saido Berahino.
Gayle helped spearhead Newcastle's campaign to rejoin the Premier League last season, netting 23 goals. It is thought that Magpies boss Rafa Benitez would be prepared to part ways with the striker.
Meanwhile, a player who certainly won't feature in Stoke's squad next season as they aim to win promotion back to the top-tier, is Charlie Adam.
The Scotland international fiercely criticised his team-mates after the club's relegation was confirmed, much to the anger of Stoke club hierachy.
He said: ''A lack of discipline from certain players has been embarassing. I think some have been getting away with murder for a long time. There are four or five that could be counted.''
His comments reportedly earnt the ire of his bosses and the 32-year-old is likely to have his contract terminated.
