Celtic's woes went from bad to worse on Thursday, as defender Jozo Simunovic was carried off during their Europa League defeat in Germany at the hands of RB Leipzig.
It is now seeming likely that manager Brendan Rodgers will have to conjure up a makeshift centre -half paring for the crunch semi-final cup match with Hearts this weekend, with Jack Hendry and Filip Benkovic the only fit players left.
Regular centre -half Dedryck Boyata is already suspended for the tie at Murrayfield on Sunday, and so Rodgers will have to delve into the depths of his squad to find a partnership to field for the fixture.
After the defeat in Leipzig, Rodgers confirmed the doubtfulness of Simunovic appearing on Sunday, saying:"'Jozo looks like he'll be struggling. He took an awkward landing when he jumped for the ball. He will be a question mark for the weekend."
He continued: "'Unfortunately Dedryck Boyata, who I thought was outstanding for us tonight, won't be available at the weekend for us. I think Jozo will struggle."
Celtic will almost certainly be without captain Scott Brown who is struggling with a hamstring injury himself, and his absence will no doubt be felt on the field on Sunday, with his withdrawal playing a huge part in Celtic's away defeat to Leipzig on Thursday.
