Brazilian winger Bernard, signed as a free agent in the summer, was handed his first Premier League start and he had an instant impact as his trickery down the left played a part in Everton taking an early lead.
Fellow Samba star Richarlison was the man to profit as he volleyed home from close range, only for Ricardo Periera to restore parity just before half-time with his first Leicester goal as they ruthlessly countered following an Everton corner.
The leveller was no less than the hosts deserved, but their hopes of getting anything out of the game took a major blow on 63 minutes as captain Morgan was given his marching orders after picking up a second booking for bringing down Richarlison.
Playing against 10 men for almost half an hour, Everton began to push hard in their search for a winner and when it came it was a stunner.
With 13 minutes to play Sigurdsson received the ball some 35 yards out with his back to goal. There appeared to be little danger, only for the Icelandic to produce a wonderful turn to leave James Maddison for dead and fire a stunning strike beyond Kasper Schmeichel and into the top corner to secure the points for his side.
The win means Everton have recorded back-to-back Premier League wins, whilst they also went joint on points with Leicester, though the 'Foxes' remain a place above them in ninth by virtue of goal difference.
